Guddu ki Gun :Kunal Khemu’s golden ‘GUN’ brings a KINKY twist to this sex comedy!

Sex comedies have their own market and their audiences, and are generally very popular here as well as in West. In the West, we have American Pie series and all those Judd Apatow comedies, in Bollywood we have the Masti series and the Kya Kool Hai Hum series. Even though they get derided by the critics (with the rare exception of Delhi Belly), they have been super successful and people, even if you wrinkle your nose in disgust, enjoy those kind of films. Guddu ki Gun is the latest film to join this legion!

The film is about a Bihari Casanova, played by Kunal Khemu, a detergent salesman who targets housewives for his sexual conquests. The one thing he is proud of the most is his dic…I mean his gun…err…you know, what I mean! One fine morning, he wakes up and find his gun has turned into gold. Confused and scared as to what has happened, he tried to make it back to normal through various ways, including going to the hospital and get it drilled, but to no avail. Soon the news spreads out attracting the attention of the media and the goons, who are now after that ‘golden gun’. Thus begins the fable of Guddu and his golden gun!

What’s hot:

For one, the concept is damn interesting! There was a Hollywood movie in 2014, called Bad Johnson, which was also about a philandering Casanova who finds one day that his sexual organ has left him and become a person of its own! Here, the organ just turns gold! There are some hilarious scenes in the trailer, especially those at the hospital and the conversations Kunal has with his friend. The makers needs to be lauded for making a film on such a risque subject, for any film based on any organs that’s linked to sex, is frowned upon by our pavitra society. After the underrated Go Goa Gone and 99, it looks like Kunal Khemu‘s comic timing have been finally tapped to its full potential once more by the directors. His Bihari lingo is hilarious, especially when  he exclaims ‘O Seet!’. Even the supporting cast of Brijendra Kala, Sumeet Vyas, Jameel Khan is having a gala time here. The final nautanki scene is hilarious.

What’s not

Like I said before, not everyone can appreciate this kind of comedy. People can’t even talk about sex openly, forget praising a movie about a golden penis! The heroine, Aparna Kumar, is pretty, but going by the trailers, it  looks like she is only there to be a female love interest.

Our verdict

The trailer and the concept of Guddu ki Gun are not something that can be easily digested by many. But if you keep an open mind, you will find yourself chuckling at a few gags. I sure did! Just hoping that the movie lives up to its trailer when it releases on October 30.
