Jules Bianchi: Formula One Driver Dies

This is so sad. Jules Bianchi has sadly passed away, nine months after the Formula One driver suffered severe head injuries at the Japanese Grand Prix. Jules was only 25 years old.

Jules Bianchi died on July 17, his family has confirmed. The 25-year-old French Formula One driver had been fighting for his life since Oct. 2014, after sustaining terrible head injuries in a head-on crash at the Japanese Grand Prix. His family said Jules fought valiantly up until he passed away. He will be missed.

Jules died in a hospital in his hometown of Nice, France, according to CNN. He had been admitted to the hospital after suffering severe injuries on Oct. 5 at the Japanese Grand Prix. “Jules fought right to the very end, as he always did, but today his battle came to an end,” his family said in a statement. “The pain we feel is immense and indescribable.”

Jules had been in a coma since the accident. He collided at high speed with a crane that was being used to pick up another crashed car, the Associated Press reports. This is the first death resulting from a Formula One Grand Prix accident since Ayrton Senna’s death in San Marino in 1994.
